Perhaps you have considered becoming a Special before but never got round to finding out more?

We are looking to recruit more people to join our team of 150 Specials.

Interested?

The next Special Constabulary Induction Courses will run over the weekends and Wednesday evenings between the following dates. Although there may be minor changes to the dates, it is not envisaged that these will change radically from those advertised.

Course dates

There will be a Special Constables training course beginning in April 2011.

Application forms should be returned by 31 October 2010.

A vital link

Of the many voluntary organisations that exist, there can be few that offer the variety of experience and opportunity that you will find in the Special Constabulary. Demands on the police service are increasing and as a Special Constable you will help Lothian and Borders Police continue to provide the high standards of policing we are renowned for and play a crucial role in forging stronger links between the police and the community.

Give your life a new dimension

Being a Special Constable will not always be easy, but you will find the work challenging, varied and immensely enjoyable. You will be trained to perform routine police patrols, deal effectively with public order situations, enforce traffic legislation and carry out initial investigations at the scene of a crime.  The reward of giving up some of your spare time to help your regular colleagues is not a financial one, but rather the knowledge that you are an integral part of the best police service in the world.
