Latest News
The band took part in the World Pipe Band Championships, which were held in Glasgow last weekend and while they did not qualify for the grade one final, they did however put in a very creditable performance in the morning heat. The event was filmed by the BBC and streamed live to a worldwide audience and the band’s MSR can still be viewed on the BBC’s World Pipe Band Championship website.
Pipe Major Ian Duncan is happy with the progress made so far this season and while slightly disappointed in the band’s placing at Glasgow, is looking forward to the medley contest at Cowal Games at the end of the month. The band would also like to take the opportunity to congratulate Pipe Major Terry Tully and the St Laurence O’Toole Pipe Band from Dublin, on winning their first World Championship title.

Latest News
This month saw the first airing of the new contest material when a mini band was invited to entertain the Eagle Pipers Society at the Scots Guards Club in Edinburgh’s West End.
After the members were entertained with both medley and MSR playing from the band, a very enjoyable night was rounded off with some fine solo playing by amongst others, the band’s youngest player, Alex Duncan and a master class from one its former members - Iain Speirs.
Later the same week the band also enjoyed a very successful dinner on Friday 16th April, which was held in the Royal Scots Club in Abercromby Place.
The Band President ACC Livingstone welcomed the new Deputy Chief Constable, Steve Allen to his first band dinner. Former Band President Tom Halpin replied on behalf of the band before being presented with an inscribed quaich by Pipe Major Ian Duncan, who thanked him for his support during his time in office.
The entertainment for the evening was provided by another former band piper and top soloist, Cameron Drummond, who showed his usual excellent form.
The evening was also a chance for many former members to meet up and included no less than seven former Pipe Majors who were cajoled into posing together for a very memorable photograph.

Death of Former Pipe Major Les Watson
It is with great regret that we intimate the death on 16th August 2009, of retired officer Leslie Stuart Watson, aged 50 years.
Having joined Lothian and Borders Police in 1986, Les worked predominantly within "D" Division, at Leith, Drylaw and Portobello, but was latterly based at the West End Police Station before his retirement in 2008, having completed just under 23 years service.
Les was a piper in the Police pipe band for majority of his service, being Pipe Major of Lothian and Borders Police Pipe Band between 1994 and 1996, later returning as a piper within the corps.
He also became tutor and Pipe Major of Craigmount High School Novice Juvenile Pipe Band, where he led them to many successes on the contest field.
As a youth, Les enjoyed great success in solo piping contests winning both the World Juvenile Solo Champion title at Ayr and the Inverchapel Challenge Trophy for Piobaireachd at Cowal Games. He also won the Ayr, Dumfries & Galloway branch Juvenile and Adult solo titles on the same day.
As an adult he gained 3rd place in the Silver Medal contest at the Northern Meeting in Inverness.
He is survived by his children Iona and Duncan.

A large number of the band were recently involved at Craigmount High School’s Solo piping and drumming contest held within the school on 6th December.
L&B Piper Jamie Barnes, son of our own Pipe Major, is the new man in charge at Craigmount. Jamie also has the assistance of a number of pipers and drummers from the Police band who are involved in instructing all sections of the school band.
Pipe Major Davie Barnes, pipers John Fraser, Matt Donaldson and drummer Alex Dudgeon were all involved in judging the contest, with a couple of our younger members taking part. Congratulations are in order for tenor drummer Stuart Williamson who finished 4th in the tenor contest and piper Andrew Gray who lifted prizes in both the MSR and Piobaireachd events.
The band are also delighted to have been invited to return to Paris in February 2009, to take part in the Ecosse a Montmartre Festival, which is a celebration of all things Scottish in this beautiful district of the city. www.ecosse-montmartre.com
As the festival coincides with the Six Nations rugby match between France and Scotland, it is hoped the band will again provide the national anthem for the Scottish team at the Stade de France.
