Sexual assault - Edinburgh
Police in Edinburgh are appealing for witnesses following a
sexual assault that happened in the Meadows area of the Capital on
Tuesday night.
The incident happened between 6.50pm and 7pm, close to the tennis
courts.
The 21-year-old victim was jogging past the tennis courts when she
was grabbed by a man and forced to the ground. He sexually
assaulted her, however she managed to fight him off and he fled
towards Buccleuch Street on one of the paths.
He is described as being around 30-years-old, 5ft 10ins tall, and
is dark-skinned, possibly Indian appearance. He was clean-shaven at
the time and was wearing a grey hooded top.
There is nothing to suggest this incident is linked to another one
in the area last week, although officers are keeping an open mind
at this stage as inquiries are ongoing.
There will be a continued police presence in the Meadows to provide
reassurance to the public.
A police spokesman said: "This was an extremely distressing ordeal
for the victim, who bravely fought off her attacker before he made
his escape.
"We are appealing to anyone who was in the area of the Meadows last
night, who witnessed the incident, or noticed anyone acting
suspiciously there, to contact police immediately."
Anyone with any information should contact Lothian and Borders
Police on 0131 311 3131, or Crimestoppers in confidence and
complete anonymity in 0800 555 111.
