Murder victim identified
Police in Edinburgh can now formally identify the man found dead
in a flat in Dickson Street, Leith on Saturday 14th
January.
He is 34 year old Maciej Ciania from
Poland.
Mr Ciania was found in his home at around 9am
on Saturday morning after suffering a brutal and violent death.
A murder investigation is now underway, with
over 40 officers from the Lothian and Borders Police Major
Investigation Team working on the inquiry.
In the meantime, police are keen to establish
more details about Mr Ciania’s lifestyle and are eager to speak to
anyone who may have been a friend or an associate, or who may have
worked him since he moved to Scotland a number of years ago.
Similarly, officers would like to speak to
anyone who might have seen Mr Ciania in the past week and in
particular since Thursday morning, when he was last seen alive.
Detective Superintendent Allan Jones said:
“Maciej Ciania suffered significantly at the hands of his attacker,
and we are keen to trace friends and acquaintances as a matter of
urgency.
“It is vital that we build a picture of Mr
Ciania’s lifestyle and his movements over the past week, and I
would appeal to members of the local community to get in touch with
us immediately since they may well hold the key to us finding Mr
Ciania’s killer.
“In the meantime, local officers are
continuing to provide a highly visible presence and are conducting
door-to-door enquiries around the area to gather information from
local residents.
“Extra patrols have also been put in place to
reassure members of the local community who may be concerned.”
Anyone with any information is asked to
contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131 or
