Text size

If you find the text too small on our website, you can increase the text size by using your browser. 

Internet Explorer

Select 'View' and then 'Text size' from the toolbar.

Mozilla Firefox

From the toolbar, choose the 'View' menu, then 'Zoom' or 'Zoom text only'.

Safari

Select 'View' and then 'Make text bigger'.

Google Chrome

Select the 'wrench' icon on the browser toolbar.  Then choose 'Options' followed by 'Under the hood.'

In the 'Web content' section, select 'Page zoom.

Opera

Select 'View' from the browser menu and then choose 'Zoom'.

 

PDF (Portable Document Format) files

PDF documents can be opened using Acrobat Reader software, which is free to download.

Deaf and speech-impaired visitors

Our SMS service allows deaf and speech impaired people to use their mobile phones to contact the police, by texting the number: 07717 993262. This is not a ‘999’ emergency service. In an emergency, typetalk 18000.

Speech enabled web pages - BrowseAloud 

BrowseAloud is a computer program that reads aloud all website content including PDF and Microsoft Word documents.  As you move the cursor over words, they are spoken aloud.

 

BrowseAloud is free to the end user and makes using the Internet easier for people who have low literacy and reading skills, English as a second language, dyslexia or mild visual impairments.


BrowseAloud is a Windows browser plug-in designed for use with Internet Explorer 4 upwards or Netscape Navigator. If you install the BrowseAloud plugin onto your PC, you can have the web pages on this website read back to you.
