OPERATION EXCALIBUR
Wielding the sword in the fight against vandalism & fire-raising in Midlothian & East Lothian

Operation Excalibur set to target East Lothian

After a successful launch in Midlothian, Operation Excalibur is now widening the net to tackle crimes of vandalism and fire-raising in East Lothian.

Reported vandalism accounts for over a quarter of all recorded crime in East Lothian and Midlothian. The time has come to say enough is enough.... Read on to see what is happening in your area, view images of local vandalism and see if you can help solve some outstanding crimes on our appeals page. You may be able to help us. The images on our appeals pages are regularly updated along with crime statistics and updates on detected crimes.

Working with our partner agencies at Midlothian Council, East Lothian Council, Lothian & Borders Fire Brigade, First Bus, Lothian Buses and NHWs across the area to name but a few, our aim is to prevent and detect such crimes, which degenerate neighbourhoods and create a fear of crime amongst the vulnerable.

What you can do to help:
If you have any information about who is responsible for acts of vandalism or fire-raising in Midlothian, use one of the above methods to contact us in complete confidence, without telling us your details (unless you specifically wish to be a witness). The information may even be something your child has shared with you if they have witnessed a crime. Simply leave details of the crime
  • What happened (ie 3 broken windows, spray painting etc)
  • Where and when it happened (location, time and date)
  • The name (or as much detail and description as you can provide) of who is responsible, along with details of any others present at the time if there is a group.

Remember, if you witness an ongoing incident you should contact the Police immediately by ringing your local station, or via the Force Control Room on 0131 311 3131. Always dial 999 in the case of an emergency.

Information passed to us will be followed up by a team of dedicated officers. We'll even keep you updated with results on information received, so watch this space........

Preventative Measures
  • Rubbish left lying about is a magnet to a would-be fire-raiser, causing unnecessary callouts for the Fire Brigade. If you see an abandoned car, dumped rubbish or discarded bulky household items please contact Midlothian Council on 0131 561 5284 or East Lothian Council on 01620 827 827.
