Remote crime reporting
What is Remote Reporting?
Remote Reporting is a way of reporting a crime or passing on
information without talking to the police directly. There are a
number of different organisations throughout Lothian and the
Borders where victims, witnesses, carers or others can speak
privately to a member of staff, and they will pass your information
onto the police.
You can:
Ask for your information to be
investigated, leave details, but ask for your information not to be
investigated, leave no details, and ask for your information not to
be investigated, (this helps police monitor areas where hate crime
may be rising)
If you would like to remotely report any crime, incident or
information please contact one of the agencies listed.
If you, or the organisation you are involved with, would be
interested in becoming a partner in remote reporting, please see
the information below and therafter contact your local Community
Safety Department in the first instance by telephoning:

Information for agencies interested in becoming a partner in
remote reporting
We would like to expand the remote reporting scheme to cover as
many varied agencies and organisations as possible. This will
increase the geographical area covered by remote reporting in the
force and therefore allow easier access to remote reporting
facilities for a wider sector of the community.
Lothian and Borders Police will provide staff at each partner
agency/organisation with brief training on how to fill out a remote
report form on behalf of a victim of crime or person wanting to
provide information.
These partners can thereafter provide advice, information or
support to victims or alternatively 'signpost' these people to
other agencies that can offer further support and assistance.
Suitable posters etc. Advertising the scheme will be provided to
each partner.
Each partner agency will have a nominated point of contact within
their local Community Safety Branch. This will allow any problems
or issues arising to be resolved at a local level, when possible.
It will be the responsibility of the local Community Safety branch
to provide any further training required by partner
organisations.
Summary
Under-reporting of crime is a major concern for Lothian and
Borders Police. Remote reporting helps to address some of the
problems faced by the wide communities that we serve, offering an
alternative method for reporting incidents.
By agreeing to take part and become a partner in the remote
reporting scheme, you and your organisation will be helping the
community access services which may have been extremely difficult
for them to access previously.
By taking part, your organisation will be visibly demonstrating its
commitment to Diversity and inclusion.
