Dickinson
Deputy Chief Constable
Ian
Dickinson was born in the East Riding of Yorkshire in 1955 and
remained in or around Hull for most of his adult life - leaving
only for University in Durham and for a subsequent brief period
teaching at a grammar school in Surrey.
He
has a Bachelor of Education degree from Durham University, a Diploma
in Applied Criminology from Cambridge University and has completed
the Strategic Command Course at the Police Staff College, Bramshill.
Joining
Humberside Police in 1978, he served in that force throughout
his service save for a two year posting to the Royal Hong Kong
Police as a Divisional Commander. He has a breadth of experience
having been a Superintendent for over ten years before being appointed
Assistant Chief Constable in Lothian and Borders Police in October
2001.
On
appointment Mr Dickinson had operational responsibility for the
Lothians and Scottish Borders areas before taking up his present
post in April 2002 where he has responsibility for Specialist
Operations within the Force. He has been closely involved in the G8 policing, Hogmanay and a range of other significant police operations.
He
is married with three daughters all still in full-time education
and his wife was until recently a serving police sergeant.
He was recently promoted (temporarily) to the rank of Deputy Chief Constable while the position is vacant.
