Mike McCormick
Assistant Chief Constable
Mike was born and raised in Northern Ireland, moving to Scotland in 1980 to study at Stirling University.
Graduating in 1984, he joined Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary, where his early career was spent in uniform, followed by a period in CID.
His rise through the ranks included stints in operational planning, recruiting and training, strategic planning, human resource management, and as a local authority liaison officer.
In the year 2000 Mike commanded police operations during the culmination of the trial in Holland of the men accused of the Lockerbie bombing, following which he returned to Dumfries as the Head of Traffic and Communications.
In 2001 he secured a two-year posting to Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary for Scotland undertaking force inspections, before moving back to Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary as Divisional Commander for the western half of the force, based in Stranraer.
In December 2005, he was promoted, to the rank of Chief Superintendent and the post of Head of Operations, providing leadership and direction for the heads of department and divisional commanders in Dumfries and Galloway.
In September 2008 Mike was selected for the post of Assistant Chief Constable Territorial Policing with Lothian and Borders Police. His role includes supporting and leading the delivery of front line policing across the force area as well as Community Policing.
